In-House Training on Improving Writing Skills – Creating a Strong Writing Pipeline

Date: 24th April 2026

Venue: Essence International School

Essence International School conducted an in-house training session on “Improving Writing Skills – Creating a Strong Writing Pipeline”, facilitated by Dr. Hema Menon, School Director. The objective of the session was to equip teachers with effective strategies to enhance students’ writing skills across all subjects.

The session was conducted in the presence of the Principal Mrs. Beena Menon, and the Quality Coordinator, Mrs. Jayshree Sastri.

The workshop introduced a structured writing pipeline, focusing on a step-by-step development of writing skills. Teachers were guided to begin with the creation of a word bank, where students collect subject-specific vocabulary. This helps in building a strong foundation for writing.

Further, the session emphasized progressing from words to phrases, sentences, linked sentences, and finally to paragraph writing. This gradual approach enables students to develop clarity and confidence in expressing their ideas.

Madam also highlighted the importance of integrating these models into lesson planning. The workshop introduced the concept of a Weekly Writing Cycle to ensure continuous practice and improvement. A structured weekly flow was suggested as follows:

  • Day 1: Vocabulary building and oral idea generation
  • Day 2: Sentence writing and sentence improvement
  • Day 3: Linking sentences and short paragraph writing
  • Day 4: Guided paragraph writing

This approach ensures regular practice and helps students gradually develop strong writing skills.

The strategies discussed are highly beneficial for all subjects, including Science, Social Science, and Mathematics, as they enable students to write better answers and understand concepts more effectively.

The session was highly informative and provided practical insights for classroom implementation. It reinforced the importance of a systematic approach in developing writing skills among students.

The session concluded on a positive note, equipping teachers with practical strategies to enhance students’ writing skills and promote effective learning across the curriculum.
