Essence International School organized an in-house professional development workshop on “The 5 Laws of Great Teaching” for its teaching staff. The session was conducted by our Honourable Director, Dr.Mrs.Hema Menon with the objective of strengthening effective teaching practices and enhancing student learning outcomes. The workshop was graced by the presence of our respected Principal, Mrs. Beena Menon and Quality Coordinator ,Mrs.Jayshree Sastri.

The session commenced with a thought-provoking reflection, encouraging teachers to honestly introspect on their role as educators. Director Madam emphasized that teaching is not merely about completing the syllabus or preparing students for examinations; it is about creating meaningful learning experiences and fostering genuine understanding among students.

Through practical examples and engaging discussions, she elaborated on the Five Laws of Great Teaching. One of the key principles discussed was the importance of keeping learning simple. Teachers were encouraged to break down complex concepts into simple, understandable ideas and connect them with real-life situations so that students can easily grasp and retain concepts. While discussing the law of repetition, Madam explained that repetition should not mean presenting the same information in the same manner repeatedly. Instead, concepts should be reinforced through varied approaches such as discussions, activities, examples, questioning, and application-based learning, enabling students to develop a deeper understanding of the topic.

The session also highlighted the significance of structured teaching and thorough preparation. Teachers were encouraged to enter the classroom with clear objectives, organized content, and effective teaching strategies. Proper planning and preparation help ensure meaningful learning experiences, active student engagement, and smooth classroom instruction.
Director Madam further emphasized that every classroom comprises diverse learners with different abilities, emotions, interests, and learning needs. She reminded teachers that they are not merely teaching subjects but shaping
understanding, influencing attitudes, and contributing significantly to the overall development of students. The discussion focused on transforming curriculum objectives into meaningful learning experiences through conceptual clarity, effective classroom engagement, and continuous assessment.
Towards the end of the session, madam emphasized the importance of embracing positive change and becoming “Change Makers” by consciously adopting better practices that enhance student learning. Teachers were asked to share, through email, the specific changes they intended to implement in their classrooms as a commitment towards continuous professional growth.
The session concluded with a powerful message that meaningful change begins with self-reflection, willingness to improve, and consistent effort. The workshop inspired all participants to strive for excellence in teaching and create more effective, engaging, and learner-centred classroom experiences.
The training proved to be highly enriching, insightful, and motivating for all the teachers.
