National Librarians’ Day

Essence International School, Library Department celebrated National Librarians’ Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India. The day aimed to create awareness among students about the importance of libraries, books, reading habits, digital resources, and the role of libraries in developing lifelong learning skills.

A series of age-appropriate activities were conducted by  the Librarian Mrs. Sonia Jagtap and Asst. Librarian Mrs. Chandrajyoti Choudhary for students of different classes to encourage reading, communication, critical thinking, creativity, and appreciation for libraries.

Class  VI B  Special Assembly

A Special Assembly was  conducted  to commemorate National Librarians’ Day and International Youth Day. The assembly aimed to create awareness among students about the importance of libraries, reading habits, youth participation, knowledge and responsible citizenship.

Students were informed that National Librarians’ Day is observed on 12 August, the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India. Students learnt about his contribution to library science and his famous Five Laws of Library Science.

Students were also introduced to International Youth Day, observed on 12 August. The session highlighted the importance of young people in creating positive change and encouraged students to develop qualities such as leadership, creativity, responsibility, empathy and teamwork.

Classes I–III  Reading Pledge

Students participated enthusiastically in a Reading Pledge. They took a pledge to develop the habit of reading regularly, handle books carefully, make proper use of the school library and share the knowledge gained through reading. Students were introduced to the life and achievements of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan. They learnt that he was an Indian mathematician, librarian and educator whose work had a major influence on library science. His important contributions include the Five Laws of Library Science.
